Statement of Derek Cressman on Rob Reiner's Resignation as Chairman of the First 5 Commission

While we welcome Mr. Reiner's resignation as chairman of the California Children and Family Commission, it does nothing to solve the larger problem that the Commission appears to have used taxpayer dollars to further Mr. Reiner's political agenda.

The best way to undo the damage done to the integrity of the initiative process would be for either Prop 82 supporters or those members and consultants of the First 5 Commission who approved the use taxpayer dollars to reimburse the California Children and Family Commission for the amount spent on the "Preschool for All" ad campaign. If they refuse to do so, the Commission should spend and equal amount of public money to provide a fair and impartial presentation of credible opposing viewpoints to "Preschool for All".

TheRestofUs.org called for Mr. Reiner's resignation and for the reimbursement of public resources in a statement released last week, which can be found on our website: http://www.therestofus.org/newsreleases/2006PublicFunds.htm

The website also has links to the relevant California law.
